windsor terrace apartment, 2017
This sixth floor one-bedroom apartment had beautiful views of the trees in park-like Greenwood across the street, but hadn’t been touched since the building was completed in 1953. We gutted the kitchen and opened up the kitchen closet, making space for the fridge and allowing for a narrow island. Moving the opening to the bedroom and bathroom hallway allowed us to create a new walk-in closet as well as additional counter and pantry space for the kitchen. We replaced the bathroom sink and toilet, refinished the existing tub, replaced the floor and wall tile, and reclaimed the built-in hamper as bathroom storage. We hid the existing radiators with custom millwork covers, which double as cat perches.
We refinished the original hardwood flooring after removing layers of linoleum, replaced lighting and ceiling fans throughout, and kept the colors neutral and calm. For the living room we chose a coffee table that transforms to a dining table that seats up to 10, and a wall mirror that transforms into a desk, allowing the space to effortlessly move from office to lounge to dining room.
