PS261 Arts Day lobby projects
I chaired Arts Day at PS261 for three years; for Arts Day each classroom had an artist visit them to learn how to do a perspective drawing, or make a short stop-motion dinosaur film, or make a dance or write a poem. Each year I conceived and made a project to transform the lobby and include the students in an all-school artwork. In 2014 I made a map of Brooklyn and each student showed how they got to school with drawings, string, and tacks. in 2015 we temporarily recreated a wall mural depicting academic subjects important in the 1950s with post-it notes that the students had written or drawn on with their ideas of academic subjects that are important in 2015. In 2016 we asked the students to make their own planets, then hung them from balloons to make our own galaxy.
