A few small moves in chelsea, 2018

The new owners of this top floor apartment needed some precision changes to a modern, light-filled space. We removed part of the concrete floor in the shower bathroom to repair the underfloor heating element and slope new concrete toward a new linear drain, replaced the existing porcelain sink with a custom solid-surface sink, and replaced the lighting. New wall tile lightened the space and allowed for a shower niche.

We turned the larger bathroom into a music room and borrowed space from the bedroom to create custom built-in closets for both music room and bedroom. For the built-in closet millwork we chose to extend the existing material palette by matching the bamboo kitchen cabinetry. We added a new pocket door to the bedroom and modified the existing closet with reclaimed fixtures.

The existing walk-in closet became a new half-bath, existing ductwork was reworked for the new layout, a few new doors were added to the existing kitchen cabinetry, and new shoe storage in the entry was carved out from below the bedroom closet. We added a new built-in desk with storage below to the dining room, meant to look like an extension of the adjacent kitchen, and we replaced the kitchen and the dining room pendant lighting.
